This exercise is designed for Windows-based computers but will also work with Apple. You will use the command prompt to execute the commands. Click START and type cmd in the Search box.
Directions
A. IPCONFIG: Reading your computer setting
1. In your command prompt, execute [type] ipconfig /all. Click ENTER.
2. Take a screen shot of your display output. There is a sample, Figure 5-19 on p. 152. The results you obtained may not be the same as Figure 5.19. Keep in mind each computer has its own unique setting.

3. Create a new WORD document and paste your screen capture in this document. Write a short essay (2 -3 paragraphs) describing your project results. and explain the contents of your screen captures. Answer the two questions in the Deliverableson p. 151.
B. PING: Finding other computers.
1. In your command prompt, execute [type] ping. Click ENTER.
2. Take a screen shot of your display output. There is a sample screen, Figure 5-20 on p. 153. The results you obtained may vary from Figure 5-20. Keep in mind each computer has its own unique setting.
3. Using the same WORD document you created in Part A, IPCONFIG, paste your PING screen capture in this document. Write a short essay (2 -3 paragraphs) describing your project results. and explain the contents of your screen captures. Answer the three questions in the Deliverables on p. 152.
NOTE: You may use one WORD document for Part A & Part B. Each part MUST have its own screen shots and essay component, clearly identified.
4. Upload your WORD document to Blackboard using the submit link below.
Grading
This assignment is worth 50 points and will be graded on completeness and accuracy. I will look for screen captures for Parts A and B and for short 2-3 paragraph essays for Parts A and B. I will also look that you answered the 2 questions found on Deliverables (p. 151) for Part A and the 3 questions found on Deliverables (p. 152) for Part B.
